Wondering when is the best time post on your instagram account?

Instagram has come a long way from a little photo-sharing app established by founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger back in 2010.

Facebook swooped in and snapped up the app for a sweet $1bn (£760m) in 2012, and since then the platform has grown to boast over 1 billion monthly active users, 25+ million business accounts, and a projected 14 billion USD in revenue.

Along the way the social app has become a must-have platform for business big and small to promote their services. One of the top questions from new and experienced users alike, as they look to gain a foothold on the platform, is when is the best time to post on Instagram.

So when is the best time to post on Instagram in 2020?

Do you know about Instagram’s ‘Insights’ feature? If you’ve converted your Instagram account into a ‘business’ or ‘creator’ account then you will have unlocked the platforms analytics and insights button.

What are Instagram Insights.png

What are Instagram Insights and how can they help you

These insights will give you a guide as to when your audience is most engaged and active with your content. From here you’ll be able to work out the optimum times and days to post your content.

Under the ‘Activity’ tab you will see some additional headings.

Discovery

This set of insights measures how many people see your content and where they find it. Reach shows the number of unique accounts that have seen your posts, and Impressions is the total number of times that all your posts have been seen.

Interactions

These insights measure the actions that people take when they engage with your account. Profile visits shows the number of times your profile has been viewed, and Website clicks is the number of taps on your displayed website address or URL in the profile bio.

Under the ‘Audience’ tab we will see the headings Growth, Locations, Age Range, Gender, and Followers.

Locations, Age Range, and Gender are excellent tools for getting to know your following better and helping you to curate better content aimed at these demographics.

The part we really want to look at in this area is Followers. This section will tell you when your current audience are most active during each day of the week and also which day your followers are most active overall.

How to get maximum impact from your future Instagram posts

Using the analytics from ‘Activity’ and cross referencing with ‘Followers’ you’ll be able to work out the best day and time, or days and times of the week to post your content for maximum impact on your specific account.

In the example below we can see that this accounts Activity is greatest on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Interactions are greatest on Wednesday and Thursday.

If we cross reference that with the Followers data under Audience we can see that Wednesday is identified as being most active.

As Wednesday was also one of the top days for Activity we would identify that as being the best day to post on for maximum audience engagements.

If we then take a quick look under Followers again and check hours under Wednesday we can see that 9:00pm is when the account’s followers are most active in that day.

So the conclusion from this example is that we should test posting on Wednesday’s and around 9:00pm in the evening.

Now, there’s no hard and fast rule to using this method, and you really should experiment during the week with multiple posts per day to get a feel for when your audience is interacting the most with you content.

However, these analytics are there for a reason and will likely convert into increased followers, greater post interaction, and provide you with all the tools to make your own decisions on when is the best time to post on Instagram.
