Portsmouth’s Kings Theatre has stood in Albert Road for 110 years. On Saturday April 7th, the theatre’s staff throw open the doors and welcome members of the public to see parts of the Edwardian playhouse that are usually out of bounds.
Front Room Portsmouth will be performing intimate music and poetry in the Dress Circle Bar, there’ll be puppet workshops and magic shows in the stalls, and Aurora — the café just a few doors down from the theatre — are serving only the most delicious of cakes.
Kings Theatre archivists will guide you through the backstage corridors, sharing decades-old stories as you go, and Dark Encounters — known for their paranormal experiences — will lead you beneath the stage.
The playhouse’s very own Kings Youth Theatre will be joined by local dance schools in a number of stage-gracing shows, whilst the backstage dressing rooms will be filled with resident artists, creative workshops, and all manner of fabulous items to buy.
This Kings Theatre open day runs from 10:30am ‘til 4:00pm, and entry is totally free. but registration is required.
