The Akash host charity night to raise money for Pompey in the Community

Pompey supporters will be able to celebrate their football team’s League 2 triumph with Southsea restaurant The Akash, who are holding a charity curry night in October.

The family-run restaurant is holding the event to help raise money for Pompey in the Community, who run a variety of programmes in the local area to encourage people of all ages to aim high through sports participation, healthy living, and education.

The event will take place on Wednesday 18th October from 7:00pm to 11:00pm. Guests will enjoy a two-course meal, live music, and the chance to have their photo taken with the gleaming League 2 trophy.

Faz Ahmed, who helps run The Akash with his family, said: “Like the rest of the city, we were so excited when Pompey won the League 2 trophy back in May. We felt this was a fitting way to celebrate and mark the start of the new season.

“We recently welcomed Eric Eisner to The Akash,” Eric being one of the directors of new Pompey owners The Tornante Company. “He visited with a couple of his friends, one of whom is a long-time customer of ours. His friend said that in America they have naan with mashed potato and peas — although it’s not on our menu we were happy to oblige!

“Mr Eisner was impressed with all our Pompey memorabilia and the support we have given to Pompey in the Community. He also said he wanted to carry on the tradition of players and fans dining here in future.

“Pompey in the Community does a great job at helping motivate people across the area and provide a range of opportunities for them. We wanted to help support their work and what better to do it than with a mid-week curry! We’ve held a number of charity evenings over the years and so we are looking forward to another fantastic night.”

During the evening, there will also be a raffle and auction, with a variety of prizes to win.

Clare Martin, Director of Pompey in the Community, said: “We are delighted to be working alongside The Akash yet again who have been great supporters of our charity.”

Tickets for the event are £16.50 per person and can be purchased by popping into the restaurant, situated on Albert Road in Southsea. Alternatively, call 02392 728 899.
